Millsaps Law Firm Alternative Dispute ResolutionAlternative Dispute Resolution
At The Millsaps Law Firm, we always attempt to settle disputes outside the courtroom primarily by representing our clients through alternative dispute resolution (ADR), which lessens litigation costs, as well as time delays. It can be used in place of - or part of - the litigation process. Typically, ADR entails arbitration or mediation, and sometimes early neutral evaluation and conciliation.

  Our Services
  * Arbitration is gaining popularity in many different types of disputes. It is a simplified version of a trial whereby both sides either agree on one arbitrator, or each side selects one arbitrator. These two arbitrators then elect a third neutral arbitrator to comprise a panel. Arbitration hearings usually last only a few hours and the opinions are not public record.   * Mediation is an even less formal alternative to litigation. Mediators are trained in negotiating settlements or agreements between opposing parties. It can be used in many different types of cases. The Millsaps Law Firm's managing partner, Patrick Millsaps, is a certified mediator by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.

Millsaps Law Firm Alternative Dispute ResolutionAlternative / Renewable Energy Technology
The Millsaps Law Firm has acted as outside general counsel to First United Ethanol, LLC and Southwest Georgia Ethanol, LLC since March 2005 when 10 community leaders invested a total of $200,000 for a feasibility study to determine if an ethanol plant could be built in Southwest Georgia. From its humble beginnings, Millsaps advised the company as it raised $76,610,000 from 850 investors, obtained $115,000,000 in debt financing, and constructed the plant. His client now operates the first 100 million gallon per year ethanol facility in the Southeast and one of the first corn-based ethanol plants built outside the American Corn Belt. Patrick now consults several other community and governmental leaders about building other alternative energy facilities in Georgia and the Southeast. Additionally, he participated in the 21st Red Clay Conference at The University of Georgia School of Law in 2009 where the topic was “Does Going Green Equal making Green?"
